William Lockwood shot onto the international scene when he finished with bronze in the men’s eight at the 2010 World Championships, the same year as winning two World Cup Medals (gold in the four in Munich and silver in the eight in Lucerne) and also taking home a men’s four bronze medal at the U23 World Championships.
The following year he went on to win silver at the 2011 World Championships in the pair alongside James Chapman.
Lockwood’s senior career went from strength to strength as he again joined with Chapman in a new-look men’s four for the London 2012 Olympics, alongside Joshua Dunkley-Smith and veteran Drew Ginn. In the lead up to the Games, the four enjoyed World Cup success, winning silver in World Cup 2 in Lucerne and then gold at World Cup 3 in Munich. At London, in an extremely close Olympic final, they were unable to hold off the strength of the British crew, finishing just 1.22 seconds behind for a silver medal.
In 2016, Lockwood was once again named in the Men's Four/
