Jack Hargreaves hails from a rural town in Country New South Wales called Nyngan but relocated to boarding school in Sydney after completing his primary education and from there took up rowing. The St Joseph's graduate first represented Australia in 2013 when he competed in the Sydney World Rowing Cup 1 in the Men's Eight and claimed a bronze medal. The young rower then went on to compete at the 2013 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in the Men's Eight. However, it was in 2014 that the New South Welshman stood out when he claimed a silver medal alongside Nick Wheatley in the U23 Men's Pair at the 2014 World Rowing U23 Championships in Varese, Italy. Hargreaves and Wheatley were named in the Men's Pair this season coached by Mark Prater, and went on to win a silver medal in the 2015 U23 World Rowing Championships and qualify their boat for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. In 2016/17, Hargreaves joined the Men's National Training Centre and was selected to row in the Men's Four at the 2017 World Rowing Cups and World Championships. He went on to win gold in the Men's Four at the 2017 World Championships, the first time in 26 years that Australia had won the boat class. In 2018, Hargreaves was once again named in the Men's Four, where he raced at World Cups 2 and 3, winning gold. He will race at the World Rowing Championships in 2018 in the same boat class.. He is currently studying for a Bachelor in Clinical Exercise Physiology.
