Vale Garry Clode, former Torrens RC rower and two time SA Kings Cup representative.
Garry Clode died last Saturday at Mannum where he had lived in recent years after retirement from a career as a merchant seaman for most of his working life.
Garry Clode raced for SA in the Kings Cup eight in 1959 and 1960 before he went to sea as a mechanical engineer.
The annual Australian Interstate Men’s eights race was held over a variety of long distances for over 70 years but 1959 was the last year that the Kings Cup race was held over the three mile race distance.Garry Clode was one of the last surviving members of an SA Kings Cup crew who raced the 3 mile event.
Garry was an enthusiastic supporter of rowing all his life and even supplied his own vehicle to drive and he helped tow the SA State team boat trailer to the 1977 Australian Interstate regatta in Perth, WA.
RSA sends our condolences to Garry’s family.
