Winter Training Program 2022

Dear Rowers, Family and Friends,

Port Adelaide is excited to announce that we will offer a winter training program for high school aged rowers, commencing 18 June 2022. Training will include on-water technical and endurance sessions as well as off-water gym and erg sessions. These sessions will be run by our experienced coaches including former Olympic and Commonwealth athletes. Training will be held in our large well-equipped gym and on the wonderful Port River estuary.

Current members are encouraged to join in.  Please note training times have been carefully selected to ensure that all of our groups can be accommodated.  The Summer program was a great success, and it has showed on the on water performance over the last few months.

Dates: Saturday 18 June to Saturday 10 September – there will be a short break during the school holidays.

Costs:

  • Members: $180
  • Non-Members: $260

This is to cover costs for fuel, wear and tear on the boats and payment for junior coaches.

Schedule and Timings:

  • Tuesday 17:30 to 19:00: On water – in the evening – Big Boats Quads, Fours and Eights. Two Safety Boats will be present and all training will be limited to the Inner Harbour.
  • Wednesday 17:30 to 1845: Ergs for years 8 to 9/Gym for 10-12
  • Thursday 17:30 to 18:45: Gym/Circuit for years 8 to 9/Ergs for 10-12
  • Saturday 09:00 to 11:00: Sculling and Small boats

Coaching will be provided by a team of coaches, including Ella Prowe, Luke Simpson, Alison Smith and Brenton Terrell.

Additional Information:

Safety:  There will be a safety briefing for all rowers new to Port Adelaide which be held on the first morning of training. Part of the safety requirements are that that rowers where high visibility tops and hats when rowing on the Port River.  Hi-viz hats with a club logo are available from the bar on Sunday mornings.
