Australian Masters Rowing Championships – Equipment Hire Opportunities and Boat Holders

To All Clubs and Schools,

As you’re probably already aware the 2021 Australian Masters Rowing Championships will now be held at West Lakes on the 27th to the 30th of May.

The change is due to ongoing water quality issues at the Sydney International Regatta Centre after extensive flooding throughout the area in March.

This is a great and unexpected opportunity to SA to host a national rowing event – the first since the 2014 edition of the same event. However, given the late venue change there is lots of work to do and lots of positions to fill!

We’ll likely be in contact with you a fair bit over the next month so please stay tuned! But, for now, we have some essential topics that we are keen to address ASAP:

One of the areas we are keen to lock down early is boat holders. This is an essential role for a national regatta. Ideally, we are looking for 4 clubs or schools that would be keen to take on a day of boat holding each – I would recommend 10 boat holders at a time (13 years of age and older) to rotate through the 8 lanes plus one Adult to supervise (if the group is under 18). Boat holder groups would be able to change over at session breaks so it would be possible to have a different group in the morning to the afternoon, etc.

Racing is from the 1000m mark and, looking at the indicative schedule, likely to be fired off thick and fast so there will be lots going on. We will provide snacks and hopefully some volunteer gear (to be confirmed).

Please let me know by emailing me if your club or school is available to help out!

With the change of venues coming so close to competition time, and there being a significant distance to travel for many clubs, we anticipate there being some demand for equipment hire of all sorts.

To facilitate this we have put together a google doc for boat hire and one for general equipment (tents, oars, boat racking inside sheds, etc). If you would like to offer equipment to interstate clubs please fill this form in with the relevant details, we will then post this information on the Official Event Website (here – and promote to all states and competitors.

Please note – you will need to provide contact details and be prepared to manage the provision of equipment yourself – Rowing SA will not have any capacity to assist with this.
