Information for the start of the 2020-21 Rowing SA Premiership Season

To All Clubs and Schools,

Please find below important information for the beginning of the 2020-21 Rowing SA Premiership Season.

Memberships and Registration

All Winter Season Memberships will lapse this week on Wednesday the 30th of September. From this point summer season memberships will become available in Rowing Manager. Please find a full list of available membership categories here All members intending to compete in any Rowing SA event or any State Team Trials for the 2020-21 season will need to hold a current valid membership and have completed the Rowing Australia Waiver prior to entry in competition.

New Members, Transfer Requests, Membership Renewals

Information and timelines for membership requests is now available as Appendix 3 in the Rowing SA Regulations for Boat Racing (available here  Please consult this appendix for details on specific requests and the timelines for submitting/processing/approving these requests.

Year Level Verifier (School Aged Athletes)

This year we are introducing a Year Level Verifier to assist in managing eligibility into Year Level based events. When renewing or registering school aged athletes (defined as being U19 eligible at the conclusion of the season) you will be prompted to input their year level as it will be at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season (i.e an athlete currently in Term 4 of Yr 9 will be in Term 1 of Yr 10 at the conclusion of the season). Once assigned, an athletes year level may only be edited by the RSA Office.

Time Trial Regattas

This year Rowing SA is trialling two Time Trial Regattas over different distances in October (1.9km on October 17th, 4.8km on October 31st). These will complement the other traditional distance racing events also found early in the rowing season – the Head of the Port (6.5km on November 7th) and the Round the Island Regatta (7km on November 14th). Please note this year the 3 Mile 8+ Race will be held in January with the Murray Bridge Regatta.

The 1.9km Time Trial Event will give participants the opportunity to compete in a big boat and a small boat in various classes (this does not mean all classes).

The 4.8km Time Trial event will only offer Quads, Fours and Eights for School Yr 9/10s and above, Club 2nd Grade and above, and Masters, with a Junior Regatta (1000m, 8 lane racing) for Yr 7/8/9 students to be held following the conclusion of the Time Trial Regatta.

Please note, due to attendance restrictions at the venue on October 31st:

  • participants may only compete in one regatta (either the 4.8km Time Trial OR the Junior Regatta).
  • participants in the Time Trial Regatta are to vacate the venue at the conclusion of their event.
  • participants in the Junior Regatta may only arrive a maximum of 90minutes prior to their first race.

Event Lists and Indicative Schedules for these events are available on Rowing Manager.

Rowing SA is awaiting further advice from SA Health on best practice for spectators at our events. We will communicate to all clubs and schools immediately upon a decision being reached. However at this stage, all options are still being considered.

Upcoming Events

Rowing SA is committed to running all scheduled events listed on the Regatta Calendar for the 2020-21 season (available here with minimal disruption. As this stage we are awaiting further advice from SA Health on our events prior to releasing event lists and schedules for November onwards.

Professional Development

A reminder about our next Development Session at 7pm on the 19th of October (Pulteney Boat Shed, Torrens Lake) – “Balancing Training & Study/Work/Life”. The session is targeted at athletes but coaches and parents are welcome to attend. Please register here –

And, lastly, a reminder also about the SA Rowing Coaches Network. We are keen to increase the level of communication and support for the development of coaches across the state. To facilitate this we are trying to create an up to date mailing list and also get some information from coaches directly on what types of development they are most interested in. The registration form takes about 2 minutes to complete and can be found here –

Please share this information with your relevant club members and supporters.

Kind regards,

Bec Lannan
