The SA Schools’ Head of the River Regatta, scheduled for Saturday March 21, 2020 has been cancelled.
The Head of the River recognises the Government recommendation that non-essential public gatherings of over 500 people should be cancelled.
The safety of our community of rowers, coaches, supporting families, volunteers and visitors is our highest priority.
There was support from the participating Schools to provide closure to the Senior boys and girls athletes for their final year of school rowing. Organisers considered the health recommendations and medical advice and came up with a modified program to race the Head of the River for Senior crews only, this morning at West Lakes. There were no spectators allowed. Only 6 races in total. We were well within the guidelines.
“The event was held this morning at West Lakes with many precautions in place. It was great to see the Senior Students have the opportunity to participate.”
The winner of the School Girl First Coxed Eight, the Florence Eaton Cup, was Seymour College, 2nd was Walford Anglican, 3rd was St Peters Girls School.
The winner of the School Boy First Coxed Eight, the Gosse Shield, was St Peters Boys College, 2nd was Scotch College, 3rd was Prince Alfred College.
The results today will be recorded as official Head of the River results.
No further races have been organised.
